View Full Version : Which would you prefer for a P4 system?
Which memory would you use? I have Dual-Channel DDR.

Well, if I had a million dollars, I'd do two chicks at the same time and some RDRAM.
But of course, I don't have a million dollars, now do I? ;)

I would like to point out that Rambus is dual channel too...lest people get the wrong idea.
I didn't say it was, since i figured that people already knew.

you'd probably be surprised.
RDRAM = LATENCY ISSUES!!!1!
Though they do scale well with the P4's 20 stage pipe. :lol:
So does my dual channel DDR. I run neck and neck with most PC1066 systems that i have compared mine to.

I'm not really a proponent of Rambus, but DDR I and II timings are getting awfully relaxed lately. With the exception of Corsair, I have a hard time finding any low latency DDR 400mhz+ parts.
I've had the horror of seeing sticks with cas4 latency. The worst was a PC3200 module with 4-4-4-8-2T timings. I pray turd like that never hits the market. Doesn't DDRII have similar 'relaxed' timings in order to increase clockspeed/bandwidth.
Even Intel aren't too picky about latency when qualifying PC3200 modules:

I don't know what the latency on current RDRAM is but I do know Intel cut it down with the i850/i850e (which were great chipsets) from the VC820 days. As it stands, I really don't see SiS carrying Rambus too far. But while I despise Rambus as a company, only a few manufacturers fab RDRAM [Samsung, Toshiba, Elpida(NEC)] and all the sticks of PC800/1066 I've ever used were of the highest quality.
Dual Channel DDR all the way :)
