View Full Version : PCI-E x16=x8?

I realized today that the whole time that I've had my computer, CPU-Z reads out my Link Width: x8, Max Supported: x16. I had dual 16x slots for SLI, and I have a x16 card but why does CPU-Z say it's x8? I'm not even running SLI mode for my board to split lanes. Right now, it's like I'm running an overclocked AGP slot..

Ok, I fixed the problem in my BIOS. For some reason, my motherboard read my card as SLI mode enabled. I have this option, "SLI Broadcast Apeture: Auto" and I set it to "Disable," and when I checked CPU-Z on reboot, it was x16 link width, x16 max supported. Either it's my mobo or my GPU but hey, it's fixed. I hope I get a performance gain :).
When I switched from a EVGA SLI board with 2x 8x PCI-E to an ABIT with 2x 16X PCI-E with my 2 7800GT's I think my 3dMark05 score went up about 20 points lol, 8800 cards might see a bit more of a boost though.

Currently I have my 8800 Ultra in my bottom PCI-e (x8) Slot because I am finishing up my watercooling setup.
current 3dmark score 8817 and that is with my E6600 @ 3.2 and the card @ 720/1113. same setup with a GTX score high 11k in the top slot (x16)
