Long time no post.

Lately I've been having an issue with processes related to my games and some applications. Upon exiting most games and a few applications, the process relating to that game or application does not close. Sometimes it will show the process with full information in task manager, other times it will only show how much memory it is using while the rest of the fields (Username, CPU and Description) are blank. I can not end the process no matter what I do. The only way for me to get rid of the process (and reclaim my memory) is to reboot. I have tried to end them using Process Explorer, throwing up command and running PsKill and Taskkill, but no dice (even though the latter confirms it has killed the process). I have searched high and low for an answer to this issue. I have run across many folks with the same problem, who like me have no answer. Any help is appreciated as this problem is starting to wear on my nerves.

I've run into this a few times, as well. I'm sorry to say that I don't have an answer for you. I ended up going back to XP, even though I SO wanted to stay with Vista. It's an urge I keep having to go back, but its things like this that are keeping me on XP until SP1 at least.

Good luck man. If I run across a solution to this in the future, I'll make sure to send you a PM and post it here.

Haveing this porblem often on my laptop and vista 32bit , only way to fix it is restart , vista sucks... or xp programs are poorly coded.

This kept happening with IGN Download manager, pressing END PROCESS wouldnt make it end, no matter how many times I tred it just sat there in task manager. Finally one day I got fed up and just let it run after pressing "END TASK", and after just a few minutes the program ended task. So next time that happens try to goto task manager and end task and just wait a few minutes and it should go away. Dont know what else to say, I hate it when it happens too.

Thanks guys. Seems to be a common problem then, one that is annoying enough to make me use XP again, even though I like a majority of the things Vista has to offer.

I've never had this problem, but maybe try downloading process explorer and see if you can kill the processes that way. See if the problem is maybe just with task manager.

i don't have that problem, but then i have pretty much every hotfix installed that possible. Even ones that are not on windows updates.

Mr Claw and myself have already tried this. It's just another "feature" of Vista that the enthusiast crowd refuses to acknowledge.
