I see they show star trek ng or whatever on Sky HD, What do they do to make it HD and can I get software that will do the same?

Is it just a case of antialisasing the old shows? Dont the tv's do upscaling like that anyway?

No, it has to do with the fact many films and shows are filmed at a higher resolution than what common TV's were capable of. With the advent of LCD and other HD sources on the television side they are finally able to take advantage of those high resolutions.

in the case of the StarTrek HD, they are actually remastered and have added new CGI effects to replace some of the old poor special effect shots.

for example:

other shows, probably only go through hardware upscaling and anti-aliasing.
Hopefullly good ones.

remember, there are technically 13 specifications for HD. but now we are down to about 6-7 in practicality. and only 3-4 of any real meaning as far as support goes

HDNet runs reruns of Hogan's Heroes and it looks pretty good for its age... then again I am a ***** for Hogan.
