Wow I am really surprised, I thought everyone in USA knew all about HDTVs so this will look very bad for HD-DVD camp.

Wouldn't this be bad also for the Blu-Ray side?

I dont know about that but HD-DVD camp talked about superior image quality all the times so 90% cant see the differences.

If you read the damn cover, you'd see that it has HD Picture / HD Sound.

Did you notice that "/"?

It makes all the difference in the world.

I think for most people HD sound wouldn't make a difference. Most people use cheesy HTIB systems thinking they are badass because they make a lot of noise and have the word "sony" or "bose" written on them. This type of person won't hear the difference between traditional dvd audio and the higher detailed audio found on these discs.

Wrong and your attempt at humor fell way short. That's their bull**** marketing hyperbole. I wasn't asking for a literal definition. How is what HD DVD says about their product any different than what Blu-ray says about theirs?

Please explain. I'm dying to hear this.

You guys take the whole HDDVD vs Bluray thing way, way too seriously.

90% of Americans are total idiots when it comes to technology, btw.

qft!

I don't like to sit in front of my TV, rubbing my nose on the panel.... :D

I will not buy a br or hddvd player soon, though.
I'm very happy with the image quality the good old dvd delivers combined with ffdshow upscaling and filtering. Considering the players are still 500€ and each movie about 30€ over here... no way!

It's amazing how 1080p on Blu-ray is somehow higher definition than any other 1080p content out there. I mean, it totally makes sense though.

And yet, HD DVD is the one causing all this mass-market confusion by claiming superior PQ.

Hell, it's not like the BDA has announced they won the format war 3 or 4 times already. Nor is it like they released beta players that still won't have a finalized spec at the end of October (yeah, there are rumors that the date for a finalized spec is being pushed off), meanwhile spec 1.0 players keep gettnig released and once 1.1 is finalized, all will be unable to play newer spec 1.1 additional features.

Yet, HD DVD is the group spreading all this confusion. Of course.

720P half hd set
God almighty, I hope that was a joke.

Yup... because 10Mbps VC-1 encodes + crappy lossy audio = "The Look and sound of perfect" right?

This thread reminded me of the crappy Best Buy commercial with all the acronyms and the married couple that's 'emergency room inclined'. God I hate that commercial. :headexplode:

Of course it has to do with the superior video processing that chips like tEh cELL provide. They transform mere 1080p content into "the real HD"™. It also cures cancer so it's a pretty good investment into your future.

Let's talk about The Fifth Element and the (canceled-before-mass-release) Robocop BDs then. You know, the ones that were "Beyond High Definition" and ended up looking worse than their 480p counterparts.

And for the record, DD+ is HD audio. It's just not as great as it could be.

I wasn't trying to pick on BD, but saying that HD DVD is solely responsible for the masses not understanding HD is ****ing ridiculous. BD is just as responsible if not more so due to the aforementioned spec issues.

I know... I agree AthlonXP is insane.

I just didn't understand why you only brought up the Blu-Ray slogan (which personally, I hate both the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray slogans)....

And I didn't say it was HD audio... I said lossy ;).

Oh, I only brought it up because he was denying that Blu-ray had anything to do with consumer confusion. I figured since HD DVD was already getting the blame, bringing up their (ridiculous) slogan was beating a dead horse.

And I didn't say it was HD audio... I said lossy ;).
touche. :)

Sony pays their fanatics really well, or maybe it is the cheap drugs.

HD Audio is a rather subjective term IMO. DD is already 192/24khz, DD+ only adds additional channels and a higher bitrate, and truehd is completely lossless. But unlike higher resolution video, the average person isn't going to be able to hear the difference between regular lossy dd and lossless truehd, even if they did have a nice sound system, unless they were directly comparing the two side by side.

To me the term "hd audio" is completely meaningless. (Unless you start talking about "hd audio" sound cards, but the "hd audio" in that case refers more to its capabilities and driver standards rather than how it sounds.)
