View Full Version : OSU coach has a melt down

This is such crap. One person goes after a reporter and all of the media defends that one reporter. They then say this shows a lack of respect for the media. NO! This shows the level at which we are fed up with the media. They sit there looking down their noses at everyone and expect us to just take what they report on at face value. They can destroy people's lives with their words and they want us to respect them? Hell no.
The media is a joke. They are every bit as corrupt as our politicians. They sit in judgment of everyone and never take responsibility for what they do. They are small people that deserve NO respect what so ever.
Coach Gundy only said what many of us viewers say when we are watching TV. I say good for him.
Also notice how the media is playing this. They show it as a coach that is out of control. They portray him as being a asshole. That is the furthest from the truth. This coach was protecting one of his players from a smear article. The type of article the media does all the time. This time they got called on it.
I put reporters in with the same group as lawyers and politicians.

I seen that last night. I applauded him for him standing up for his players like that. We need more responsible people like that to be role models.
The editor told ESPN that he stood by what the reporter wrote.....that was asinine, if someone wrote crap about my child and could not prove it, I would sue the fap out of them. That was uncalled for attacking that kid like that reporter did.

The gist of the report was saying that the kid did not perform well, and the coach took him out of the game because of it. It went on about talking about how the coaches and his parents chewed him out for not playing good and yada yada yada.....

I was very impressed by his words. He said something towards the lines of "dont hurt them, they are just kids, attack me, i am a Man".
Very impressed :)

Yup..that really made me change my definition of a lot of coaches. He showed me that he was a real coach, and a real man. Kudos to him.

+1
I still remember the 1st "bad" review that came out about a restaurant I was the chef at, the idiot crucified the place and was 100% wrong about everything he described when it came to the food. These idiots spout off about all kinds of topics and 99% of them never in their life been a college athlete (much less a top-notch all american) or a chef or anything else they smear across their newspapers. There really should be a law: "If you're going to put into print something that can ruin the lives of others you should have some idea of WTF it is you're talking about!"
Nothing but respect for this guy. Even if you disagree with him (and I don't) the fact that he would go to bat for his players like that tells me he "gets" coaching a lot more than some guys.
What I do disagree with is the idea that this is alright on any level. I heard some people say that it's not okay in college because they're amateurs but that it's somehow okay when you're a pro to start making personal attacks (I haven't read the article, but that seems to be one of the major points of contention) based on performance on the field. It's immature and frankly kind of shows how ignorant the writer is if they can't come up with an interesting article without resorting to that sort of thing.
Personally I hope that coach tells his players never to talk to anyone from that paper again. It's not like they need actual material anyway, they'll just make stuff up if it suits them. :thumbdwn:

I agree partially. Some players get themselves in a situation where the media is right about them (IE Claret, Vick, etc.), and they deserve the scrutiny that they are put under.

Oh definitely, if they do something off the field then they're on their own. But it doesn't sound like this guy did anything wrong outside of not playing as well as the coach would like, and getting on him about other stuff (which apparently isn't true to boot) is just mean-spirited.
This has been the big talk around here (Oklahoma) since this happened. The major, probably the only, sports talk radio station here, WWLS The Sports Animal, had a "Gundy Monday" on Monday and they are still talking about this on the TV and radio to this day! The reporter is not liked by a lot of people around here and is an idiot. She has written a lot of crap articles in the past. WWLS is going to have Coach Gundy on their show tomorrow afternoon @ 2:30 p.m CST for a live one-on-one interview. You can listen to WWLS via the internet live @ http://www.thesportsanimal.com/. Even though I'm a huge OU fan, I like what he did here.
For those of you who don't know, Mike Gundy played for OSU back in the late 80's or so and his brother Cale Gundy played for OU in the early 90's. Cale is on the coaching staff at OU now.
Oh, yeah, Jenni Carlson is the reporter's name, BTW. :thumbdwn:
Edit: Here's the article Coach Gundy is referring to; http://newsok.com/article/3131543
