Uhh you need to overclock your CPU to tap into the card's potential.

And yes, running XP would give you a comfortable FPS boost.

e4300 is good for 3.2 with proper cooling the right motherboard and decent 800mhz+ memory, But get the Q6600 G0

3.0 is much much more common.

OP, I get around 10500 in 3dmark06 with what's in my sig.

It is strange. My 8800 GTS 320 SC shows 108 mhz / 337 mhz.

7368 is a good score with a 8800GTS 320mb with just 1.8gig CPU.and it always has a messed up clock when reporting the clocks ,my has 0 mhz /0 mhz.I would uped the core voltage to 1.35v and set the FSB to 1333 and set the memory at 666 for a 1:1 ratio to run at 3gigs .with a better heatsink you should get higher just watch your tempertures with coreTemp.Plus use RivaTuner to overclock your 8800GTS you should be able to run somewhere at 621 to 648 or higher on the core and 900 to 1000 on the memory. But if you are running everthing stock then that is a great score.

Check my sig...

Edit: Oops! I forgot I don't have my lastest 3dmark06 score, but it's usually in the 9,100 range. I'll try and get my latest score posted this weekend.

If I could get my old e6400 to 3.4ghz mostly stable (not 24/7 due to heat), and 3ghz stable 24/7 with the stock fan/cooler, etc. and DDr2 667 RAM (good RAM, of course), then I'd think your Core 2 Duo should OC good as well.

Yes, Rivatuner 2.04 FTW! Also, be sure to overclock the Core on your card FIRST, then the Memory.

You will for the time being always get a better 3dmark06 score in xp than vista! ..... although vista in not far off xp now! ..... maby a few more driver releases, some fixes from microsoft and we(vista users) will be sorted!

Try using rivatuner to turn your 8800's fan speed to 80%(100% is to loud) ... you should easily be able to get 600+ & 900 on the memory! ..... i can get my card atitool stable at 626MHz clock core, 1458MHz shader clock & 1.8GHz on the memory! ..... i just dont see the point in pusing to the limits .... as you can see from my overclocks in my sig(600\1400\900) ..... im not a extreme overclocker!

You won't get much past 8000 until that CPU is clocked up.

if its a dell you may be able to unlock more bios features
What motherboard is it? USE CPUZ OR SOMETHING IF YOU DONT KNOW http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php (unsure about the wrongness of direct linking so this is the page)
also this stock motherboard, can it support a q6600?
