Intel will reportedly follow with a set of seven additional 45nm desktop chips in January 2008. Three of those chips will be quad-core models, and the other four will be dual-core. In the quad-core camp, the upcoming Core 2 Quad Q9300 will run at 2.5GHz and carry a $266 price tag, while the Core 2 Quad Q9450 will run at 2.66GHz and cost $316, and the Q9550 model will run at 2.83GHz and cost $530. All three models will have the same 95W power rating, but the Q9550 and Q9450 will have 12MB of cache, whereas the Q9300 will have only 6MB.

Looks like I'll hold off on my quad purchase... those are pretty damn affordable if true.

Q9450 FTW!

OOOO! That sounds really nice.
But I'm going to college next fall...so Im just going to wait and build a new machine then.

Q9450 just like the E6600 and Q6600 will once again be the best buy.

the e6600 was the best buy if you did a lot of encoding.:p otherwise the e6400 is the winner :D (obviously out of those 2, e6600 gamers dont like to be told they made a mistake)

As long as the Q9450 is under $400 ,I'll be living there for a while.

That's the one caught my eye too (9450).

Anyone have any word about socket on these? I'd hate to have to pay $380.00 forr a mobo after hitting such a sweet spot on the chip.

Q9450 will be my next chip... if I can hold out that long :o

QX9650 $999/495
Q9550 $530/262
Q9450 $316/156
Q9300 $266/131

E8500 $266/131
E8400 $183/90
E8300 TBD
E8200 $163/80

New 45nm 12MB Q9450 is around the same price as old 65nm 8MB Q6600 but the cheapest I found 179 on froogle and 144 on ebay.

My god I remember bought brand new Athlon 64 X2 4400+ OEM for around 326 in 2005 a few month after launch. Now Q9550 will cost alot less than 326.

I think AMD are already pressed Panic Attack mode when they read it, I dont know how AMD will respond to this, they need to sell at above average selling prices to make huge profit really badly.

I'm curious to how they arranged the multipliers this time around. If the Q9450 has say a 7 multi, similar to the route Intel took on the E6x50 series of CPUs (e6750 multi = 7) then I may just have to get the 9550 for the extra oomph in overclockability. That, or get a P35 so I can get around the FSB limitations.

I don't know if i can hold out til January for the 9450...Q6600 G0 is 175 at scan.co.uk...

Im going to die waiting a good year before i upgrade again....ugh...

It'll be worth it though. Id rather have a nicer pc down the road for college. Im going to need one anyways.

I wonder how well these will overclock and how much a difference they will produce compaired to current Quads. Cleary they will be better... but will it be noticeable... :) I think I have sunk enough money on computers for awhile... time to enjoy some great games out and coming out and see how it all goes when the dust clears :D

I would like to know that too...

Edit: looks like they are socket 775 too. Very nice.

The 9650 early sample chip can OC to 3.8Ghz easily with stock cooler, which is pretty impressive. Performance wise Yorkfields are about 5-10% faster clock per clock.

 Q9450? :drooling:

But what about the temperatures on those babies?

I've been saving up. I'm ready for the QX9650 this time around. I just need to figure out which board to use with it.

Should be able to design your cooling around that...

The TDP of a 65nm Q6600 G0 is 95W, same as those new 45nm models

Does this mean the temperatures of the Q9300 and Q9450 45nm models will be around the same as a Q6600 65nm?

Are these prices per 1000?
or not including tax?

Im wondering about the multi's also, Ive got 4gb of 800mhz ddr2 and an unhelpfull motherboard.

Can someone also confirm that the Nehalem wont work on my p5b?
Or is it just a Hyperthreaded version of the Yorky?

People who just bought a qx6800 must be kicking themselves hard in the nuts right now.

Seems like a nice line-up. Iam glad I waited on the Q6600. January can't come soon enough. New cpu and new GPU hopefully out at around the same time. 2008 Looking real nice!

Q9450 is definitely the best buy there.

Overclocking that should be very similar to my E6750. Same clock speed, same FSB...

Not sure what I'll be doing when January rolls around, but if games really want Quad cores I'll probably sell my E6750 and get a quad.
