4349 and dvi

for starters, a general question; what agp/resolution possibilities are available with different classes of cards. ex. when i started using twinview with 4191 (Quadro2), i was informed that i didn't have enough bandwith to run 1280x1024,1280x1024@85, i assume this is related to the AGP bus. i'm probably going to be getting a new card soon, and i wanted to have a good idea of what class of card is required for different dual displays.

secondly, i recently (yesterday) installed the 4349 driver. it works fine for a crt, but crashes horribly (black screen with vertical lines of various colors in dual mode, nothing in dvi) and and cannot be shut down. the log just stops, somwhere during checking resolutions. this is using the exact same config files. i'm not using the 4x option but when i run just the crt i'm told that its agp4x (VIA chipset). is the above display setting not possible agp4x? is it possible @75?

Apparently there is a known problem using DVI in the latest drivers (see the threads about locks and crashes over the past few days). NVIDIA are tracking the problem I believe.

Currently I've had to go back to using analogue on my dual-processor box. Using DVI would only work if I booted to the uniprocessor kernel.

Yes, SMP+DVI is a known problem. See the errata on ftp://download.nvidia.com/Linux-x86/1.0-4349.

Workarounds are to boot to UP, or to connect to your panel via an analog connection.
