They finally decided to call it Geforce 8800 GT instead of Geforce 8700 GTS, G92 (D8P) performance lie between Geforce 8600 GTS and Geforce 8800 GTS 640MB. It will price $199 for 256MB and $249 for 512MB versions, much less than RV670's $229 and $299.

This is a MUCH NEEDED card in their lineup.

I know people that want gaming computers, and it seems dumb to have to settle for 2 year old technology (7950GT and x1950xt) just to get them something in the $200 range that out perfoms the 8600 series.

Hopefully they get this out as soon as possible. :p

they need to lower the price further.

the x2900pro is on the same price range.

If the 512MB line has a 256-bit interface and will be up to par with the 640MB GTS, then I'll probably snag one. $250 seems pretty affordible for that kind of card. But if the 9800's are $300-400, I'll settle for that.

Well, the 2900 Pro (512MB) is about $250:

And the 1GB Variant of the Pro is only $329

Actually, I'm strongly considering getting two of the 1GB Pros for CrossFire as my new Intel Bad Axe mobo doesn't support SLi (Damn you nVidia! :p ).

The cheapest I can find a 2900 Pro is $270.

If this thing performs between the 8800GTS 320 and 8600GTS for $200, it'll be a great buy.

Can't argue there.

I'm mostly considering CrossFire with two of the 1GB 2900 Pros cause my Intel BadAxe mobo does not support SLi.

This card should have been out earlier. They would have cleaned house if it was.

When I first heard about the 8 series in '05 (?), I read that it was originally going to be 8800GT, GTX, Ultra.

A much better option than the relatively impotent 8600GTS.

I'm keeping my eye on this card as well. The 8800GTS 320MB is still pretty pricy and the 8600GTS doesn't put out very well according to most reviews. Isn't NVIDIA supposed to put out a new card in November anyways with the release of Crysis?

Look at the key word you used. Wasn't America supposed to land someone on Mars?

I heard from some teacher friends that the 1GB variant has a major bottle neck with the 512-bit interface, so they say.
