View Full Version : 4349 & RH9 SMP hangs

I've installed the 4349 driver on Red Hat 9 (both kernels 2.4.20-8 and 2.4.20-9) and it hangs on the SMP linux kernel. When I run my system with only one processor the Nvidia driver runs fine. With SMP on it hangs before the Nvidia splash screen. I get this multi-colored vertical stripe screen.

My machine has 2 800 Mhz Coppermine P3's. The graphics card is a GeForce 4 Ti. Not sure what the mobo is, but the machine is a SGI 330, which I think they got from VA Linux.

Here's what /proc/driver/nvidia/cards/0 says:

Model: GeForce4 Ti 4600
IRQ: 9
Video BIOS: 04.25.00.34.00
Card Type: AGP

A similar thing happens to my co-worker. He has a newer Dell with 2 2.4 Ghz Xeon and a Quadro 4. His system also hangs running SMP but is fine single processor. He said the same thing happened when he installed the driver on RH 8.

I've attached my XFree86.0.log.

Thanks for any help.

If you're hooked up to a DFP via DVI, then this is a known problem. You can check the errata at ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-4349 for other known issues.

The current workaround is to connect to your panel via analog.

Thanks!

Well, the work-around worked. Now I'm using VGA on both the monitors. But hopefully you guys will find the bug soon, because analog video is much crappier than DVI.

Thanks,
