Which processor would you choose if you had an evga 8800 gts 320mb normal? Intel core2 quad q6600 kentsfield 2.40 or intel core 2 duo e6850 conroe 3.0 ghz.

Personally, I wouldn't get the E6850 over the E6750, but between either of those and a quad... it depends.

If you plan on keeping this CPU for a year or more, I'd go with the quad. If you have a P35 chipset board and are interested in getting the 45nm quad cores that will be out in a few months (which should run cooler, be faster clock for clock and overclock more), get a dual core.

If you don't plan on overclocking much, then I really don't know. These CPUs were meant to be overclocked.

Since you don't say what you will be doing with this system, I will just randomly guess you will be using it to play Hello Kitty Online (http://www.sanriotown.com/onlinegame/index.php?s=introduction). While I haven't checked the requirements for this game, I have a strong feeling it won't require a quad-core CPU, so the E6850 would be a good match.

lol im going be gaming like Oblivion and MMORPGs and all that good stuff. I ran that Bioshock demo all SmOOOTH with graphics on high(1280- 1240 is way more than enough for me idc about anti aliasing and all the other stuff. The game Looks awesome)with only my e4300 1.80 ghz and 320mb 8800gts.
Im happy.

Well, I don't think Oblivion supports quad-core:
http://techreport.com/articles.x/12210/3
So for that game specifically, quad-core does nothing for you.

Bioshock appears to, though how much benefit it gets vs. using dual core faster CPUs.. well you can Google and see what you can find.

MMOs... I'm not aware of any currently available MMO that takes advantage of quad-core.. Even dual core is kinda rare. There haven't been any real new popular MMOs out lately. All the good ones are a few years old and pre-date mainstream dual core processors.

Other than in Lost Planet and Supreme Commander, higher clocks on a dual core will get you more performance than lower clocks on a quad core.

Thats just right now though. Next years games will hopefully make use of a quad.

Like I said before, it depends on your upgrade schedule. If you plan on playing the latest games on this CPU for a year or more, get the Q6600.

If you're getting (or already have) a P35 motherboard and wouldn't mind upgrading again in a few months, get a dual (e6750 or e6850) and swap it out for a quad once the 45nm ones come out. You'll get more performance (and much lower temperatures) out of current games with a higher clocked dual core, and hopefully you'll be able to match or exceed those clocks with a 45nm quad in January.

Thats what I'm doing.

If going daul core grab a E6750,if quad a Q6600 and a good aftermarket HSF.

For mixed gaming? The duo of course.

I'm quite happy with my quad. The speed has been nothing less then steller, and I know as more and more programs utilise more then 2 cores, things will only get better. With more and more games designed with future cpu as well as console multi cores, just 2 cores isn't going to cut it imo.

+1 For Q6600:D

The E6600 is a bargain and perfectly fine for everything and you can clock them to run for about anything you want or need. The 1333MHz setting with quality ram seems to be a good all-around performance setting for trouble-free, dependable service with a stock or after-market cooler...or with some tweaking you can crank it up to 3.6 and maybe higher with the right cooling.

Having said that I am a hardware addict and I have a Q6600 running strong at 3.6GHz on the small DFI BloodIron P35 board. :D

q6600, but if you can always o/c your e4300 easily to 3ghz or 3.6 ghz, depending on your mobo, rams and cooler.

Q6600 G-0

Lots of folks are landing between 3.6-3.8 with little trouble. A few are @ 4.0GHz and higher:

I am very glad I bought mine. Love it. If you want a guaranteed G-0:

Yea, just grabbed my G0 from ClubIT. That and the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme + Scythe S-FLEX fan I got from CrazyPC will be one badass combination.

I just received my q6600 today im real sad. It didnt work, Im guessing my motherboard doesnt support it. The Power doesnt even come on for the pc, when i put back the e4300 1.80 processor it works again. My motherboard is just stock with that e4300. I'm hoping i can refund with Newegg ..300$
SO what processor will work with my motherboard?
should i just buy another motherboard?what do you reccommend not too pricey plz.
