Good news.

November is a big month

A few independent sources have confirmed that AMD is working hard to launch 2.8 if not even 3.0+ GHz Phenom FX Quad core in 2007.

As we reported before Rev B2F is the production one and AMD can finally get the clocks at higher speeds that the modest 2.5 GHz and this will finally give Intel something to reconsider its roadmaps.

It will be fun to compared 3.0 GHz Phenom FX versus a FSB1333 Yorkfield quad core at the same clock and we think that the score will be really tight and that 3.2 GHz FSB 1600 Yorkfield actually has a very good chances versus 3.0GHz Phenom.

I forgot about AMD altogether.

This little guy will probably cost the same as the X2 6400+ or about $50-100 more. Almost makes me want to forget about the Q6600 G0.

This is good news - hopefully. Although benchmark results are slim here and there, it will be interesting to see how this goes for AMD. I would love to see them take the crown back. Make intel prices go even lower. :)

2.8GHz is pretty much right on what they need if they want to stay competitive. I hope it's true.

I'm waiting till later Q1 for things to settle down a bit, as will need to perform a full MB/CPU/RAM replacement at minimum.

new CPU's from AMD and Intel
New PCIe specs
New Northbridge chips
DDR3 (currently no real benefit and too $$$$)
new GPU's

waiting for the benchmarks. The 45nm quad Intel's in Q1 look like killers. But are 4 cores really used? or will higher clocked duals smoke them?

Fun times.
Hopefully AMD can compete again, as I want there to be competition for Intel.

Good news.

Phenomenal!

The difference is AMD has to work hard to get a good product out on the market. On the other hand Intel simply delivers right on time combined with an extremely fast pace.

I really want to see some benchmarks.

CPU competition is good.

The prices are already ridiculously low for what you get... once AMD and Intel are both competing for the high end again it'll push everything down even further.

Imagine getting an E4300 for like $50 and overclocking it to 3.2Ghz. :D

You can do something similar- get the Brisbane X2 3600. ;) Hits 3.2 on air last I checked. :p

I'll beleive it when its available for sale at NCIX and Newegg, untill then AMD has lost all credibility with me.They are now known for lies,BS,and paper launches, that and robbing paul to pay peter,oh and drowning in debt.

Crysis will utilize the quads more than anything for smoothe play.

2007 is truly the year of overclockers and pc gamers. :)

LOL . . .they are trying to get a 2.8 ghz quad out the door . . .meantime QX6850 is available now . . .Penryn MAYBE coming out this year will just stomp Phenom . . .this is what happens when AMD loses focus an buys the second rate GPU maker . . .now they are both second rate. I hope they both get on the ball and catch up because competition is good and I liked ATI's All in Wonder series (we really need better HTPC cards). I used to be a bigtime AMD fanboi as well until the Core 2 Duos came out. . . I still have an Opty 185 in a box waiting to find a home and I have a mobo and tons of ram for it . .

Wouldn't be anywhere near as fast as a Core 2 though. :)

I don't think the multiplayer beta uses quad cores at all.

I'm guessing the additional cores will be used for AI and maybe physics in single player.

Crysis is only 1 game...

Do you know how many games utilize quads

Do you know how many games don't? Unless you're agreeing with me that there are more games that will utilize them.

If you have/read this months MAXIMUMPC, they had a one on one interview with the executive producer/director of Crysis, Cevat Yerli. He said,

"We are not supporting GPU or dedicated physics processors for a variety of reasons. The main one is that we did not want to change the core gameplaly physics for our minspec configurations. We have been optimizing our dynamics code for many years now, so it can run robust and as optimally as it can on CPUs of previous generations while also taking advantage of new multicore architectures. So you are best equipped with a quad core (if you have the budget). But crysis will do great on dual-core configurations as well."

Besides, CaptNKILL used the word "Beta."
