For those of you using a stock cooler, something that seems to helps a little (3-4c drop in temp) is installing the stock cooler and letting it run for awhile. I was getting 67 under load (quad core q6600) uninstalled the cooler and cleaned off the cpu and reinstalled the cooler. now I'm running 63 under load. Tried that twice (with different processors, both new) and worked both times.. Just thought I'd share my experiences.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a decent and not too expensive of a cooler to get? Anything better than this stock heatsink would be great. :D

Yep.

Air cooling doesn't get any better than this!

Keep 'em coming. :D Just need some suggestions as I've never really needed or wanted anything more than the stock cooler until now. :p

I just looked at that one, but I'm not entirely sure it will fit. NB heatsink is really close to the stock Intel HS as is.

Also, any suggestions on something that is a little cheaper? That would be about $85 with fan and thermal paste. :p

How bout this?

Mentions Quads in the specs.

Think it's the same cooler mentioned above.

I was just wondering what you guys thought of this for a cooler.

I'm running Prime95 right now and load is 71C with stock cooler @ 2.56 GHz. Definately need something better than what's I have.

I emailed them about it and they said it's ok for Quads as well.

Guess it means you should clean/rub that thermal pad off the stock heatsink to begin with and just use some AS5.

I agree. I think i'll stop by somewhere and pick up some thermal grease and try that instead of what's on it.

I'll buy a new heatsink when payday rolls around. :D

OMFG Stop now!!!!!!!!!! 71C is WAY too hot are you trying to burn out your new chip already?!??! :headexplode:

First off the freezer pro is to ****y for a quad. you need a super cooler!

Given how little space I have to work with, given the NB heatsink and memory slots being so close, I think this one you mentioned would be best..

No, not trying to burn my new investment, but also expected the stock heatsink to do a little better than what it does.. I mean stock settings and everything is mid 60'sC. Everything is seated properly, it just seems that the heatsink just sucks.

Until I can afford to get a much better cooling solution (payday) I'm going to try what I can to bring temps down, better thermal grease and run at stock.

I wish, but doing a little checking, I don't think it's something I can do right now. I usually dump money into my machine a bit at a time through the course of a year. My wife might have a heart attack over those prices, seeing that I just spent the money I did. :D

I just purchased a CM GeminII so I can push this Quad.

not too push my own stuff :) ....but my Sythe Ninja revB witll be for sale shortly and it'll blow the socks of that stock HSF

Alomst any aftermarket cooler would blow the sock off a stock cooler.

To me the Sythe Ninja revB looks like a better cooler than the GeminII, not sure about results ....... x2 120mm fan = alot or noise.

Its not....I've been compairing temps(with quad core users). As for noise, I plan to run it with two Antec Tri-Cools, which I already have 7 of runing in my case...Its whisper quiet now, I doubt adding these fans (in place of the 1200rpm Sythe) will make the slightest difference in system noise
