i would say they did that on purpose on G92.

since G92 is part of 8800 series, they probably don't want the mid 8800 series card to have better features then top of the line 8800 series (GTX and Ultra)

Well that sucks? DX10 has been out for a while and DX10 cards have been out for a year . . . but still all DX10 games minus Bioshock (worth playing I might add) are MIA. Crysis will be cool for DX10 and it will be just fine with DX10 1.0 cards. I don't really plan on playing Crysis much in DX10 for a little while anyways.

It would be pointless being DX10.1 compliant anyhow. If, performance wise, it sits between the 8600 and the 8800 GTS it wouldn't have the power to cope with even more to do.

I'm just PO that we're not gonna be seeing a 8800GTX/Ultra replacement any time soon (ie, this year). In fact the new ATI card is looking promising. It should stir things up a bit, hopefully :D

No, no, no. :p

Dx 10.1 means that you can have 4x anti-aliasing for FREE (via hardware). ;)

Oh yeah, good point. Oh, well, erm, well that's bad news if it's true then. But is it??

Well, Nvidia has had a year of basically no competition, and they can't just "stop" here and let ATI get ahead.

I have shares of Nvidia's stock, and I really want them to whoop ALL competition, until of course, I sell it. :p

**** 4x aa for free.

That's going backwards. X360 backwards.

If games start using only 4x msaa and no trss, that will be the death of me. I WILL commit suicide if that happens.

That's so stupid why anyone cares about a meager 4x aa with shimmering chainlink fences and shimmerring vegetation among other alpha texture aliasing.

4x aa is already practically free. Why does everyone think another fps or 2 will make a game more enjoyable? I'll never figure it out.

GI: The way I look at it as, if I bought a DX10 card already for $500, I’ve got a card that isn’t going to support the DX10.1 features.

Yerli: The features that it supports are not critical. The difference is so minimal. You would have to have two more generations of graphics hardware to really consider making a DX10.1 only game where the [DX10.1] features then would become significant if actually used right. I didn’t look at 10.1 because for me, I just looked at our engineers and said, “No, don’t need it in the next 12 months.” (laughs) That’s all I need to know right now.

From what I understand, even if you had the next generation of 10.1 hardware, it would be too slow to use the features. You would have to wait two more generations in order to get a real benefit from it. Remember, Matrix introduced environmental bump mapping almost 6-7 years ago? Normal Mapping and bump mapping just made it in the four years since then. In fact, Far Cry was the first normal mapped game to ship. When you look at it this way, it’s the same as 10.1. 10.1 will become actual or three years from now. But not now.

4x is not free. You can always increase anti-aliasing, but at 1680x1050 or higher resolutions, everything above 4x anti-aliasing is just gravy.
