I'm running a MINTY FRESH (completed earlier today) install of Redhat 8.0. I am getting random freezes for no reason in particular. Twice in the past couple of hours my computer has frozen solid. The keyboard quits responding to input and the Caps Lock and Scroll Lock keys start flashing. This didn't occur before I installed the latest nvidia drivers, so I'm thinking MAYBE it has something to do with those. I can't be sure. I looked through the README file and the only random freezeing I saw mentioned was with Quake 2, which I don't even have. This is just on the desktop, nothing going on, then *BLAM* nothing. Is this possibly the drivers conflicting with something?

You might want to try the PEPPERMINT FRESH 9.0 version that was just released.

BTW, it sounds like you're having a kernel panic (8 & 9 have basically the same kernel so it won't help, but it's a nice upgrade just the same)

Yes, capslock / scrolllock flashing are what happens when your kernel panics. Check the kernel logs -- they should have a record of what's happening.

Alternatively, try running outside of X for a while (just boot straight to the console). Just leave it at a prompt for a while, and see if it panics again -- if so, you'll get the actual OOPS report on your screen, which you can (after copying it down, then rebooting) run through ksymoops to get a useful stack backtrace.

I'll check the logs (gotta find them first... I swear Mandrake keeps NOTHING where everything else does, and I just replaced it). It happened again last night while I was compiling blackbox. I'll try to do it again later from the command line and see what happens. Thanks, guys.

Since this apparently isn't a driver issue, I'm moving it over to the general Linux forum.

Your logs should be in the /var/log directory.

I meant I'm moving the discussion, not the actual thread. :D
