The console not restoring on a VT switch is a known bug we're looking into. What card are you using? What video bios does it have? (You can find the vbios by looking at /proc/driver/nvidia/cards/0 while in X)

Yes!!!!
Exactly the problem I ran into. Switching back from nvidia-powered X to console will hang up my monitor. I even tried remove the following kernel options from default kernel configuration of redhat 9.0:
1) Frame buffer support
2) Video mode selection support
3) Advanced Power Management support
BUT NONE of them work!!
My system is: Dell Dimension 8200, RedHat 9.0, GeForce4 MX420 64MB Memeory, Dell P780 monitor (detected by redhat-config-xfree86). My /proc/driver/nvidia/cards/0 is the following:
Model: GeForce4 MX 420
IRQ: 3
Video BIOS: 04.17.00.45.42
Card Type: AGP
So any ideas??? Thanks!

same here
Model: GeForce4 Ti 4800 SE
IRQ: 11
Video BIOS: 04.28.20.21.00
Card Type: AGP
anyway sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't work

1st of all thanks to andy for help.
2nd i thought that it will be better to put the files to a web site then posting them here,so you can see them at
http://www.geocities.com/mesbaba8
(the site is only for these xf86config-4 and log files)

mesbaba8: According to your log, you're using 1024x768. Is this what you wanted?
The VT switching bug is still being looked into.
