Well to be fair... DX10 does offer some effects not available in 9, I can expect that its going to have some performance impact. You can always go back to dx9 if you don't like it... simply think of it as another eye candy feature you can disable if your fps is to low.

WiC doesn't have any new DX10 eye candy. I read a review about it on MAXIMUMPC. The test PC was on an EVGA 680i SLI motherboard, 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 and 2GB Corsair DDR2 RAM. EVGA 8800GTS 640 got 23FPS in WiC DX9, and 16 in DX10, Asus 8800GTX got 31 in DX9, 22 in DX10, and ATI HD2900XT got 25FPS DX9 and they couldn't test any DX10 game with the card due to driver issues.

Every other game seemed pretty decent with the eye candy and FPS impact. CoH DX9 was 20 frames faster than DX10, Lost planet was about 10-20FPS faster in DX9 than in DX10. DX10 has alot to of catching up to do before 10.1 comes out.. Pfft, DX10.1.

The comparison screens in the link up there says otherwise.

WiC actually has the most difference in eye candy... the real time clouds (and their realtime shadows), as well as alpha blending of the smoke particles.

Also I wonder if any of these games are utilizing dx10 cards for physics. Apparently thats what crysis is doing, and we can already see they disabled objects like destroyable trees in the dx9 multiplayer, most likely cause dx9 users will need to use the cpu for physics.

According to the developers of BioShock, basicly the only thing DX10 is used for in their game is one new water effect not possible to be rendered in DX9c.
That would give one hint as to why the FPS number are so close.
