8800 ultra? lol
Tri-SLi & thats about it :o
R670/R680 are planned for spring '08 most sources tell. So I think we have to disappoint you from the view of ATi.
What Nvidia is going to do is absolutely unclear as they seem to leak false information :o

Well from the latest Crysis interviews...
www.Crysis-Online.com
"In summary, there's been heaps of quality footage published as a result of this event, and it gives us all an inside look as to what to expect when Crysis is released. I can certainly notice improvements in the finer details of these latest video. There's still plenty of surprises install apparently, so things can really only improve from what we see in these videos. Besides the videos, there's been a few snippets of new information including a slight leak of information relating to the next high-end Nvidia graphics card which according to Maximum PC, will ship just before the release of Crysis."

I think it is all smoke and mirrors again....
look at the 8800.... for nearly 12 months it was said to be a non unified architecture, yet they had engineers working on it for nearly 3 years....
Edit:- Also, they have had 12 months of 8800 working with the Crysis team.... they know what the needs are for these newer titles.

It's been pretty much confirmed that there won't be a high end part in November, they are not on the roadmaps so. They might have wanted to release one during that time in the past, but realised that the G80 architecture is still playing along nicely, and they can still get plenty of money of it. And it also gives them time to work on the the Vista drivers, which are very good right now, but I bet there is still alot of performance left to be unlocked for G80 users.
...but I bet there is still alot of performance left to be unlocked for G80 users.I would bet that performance is about maxed out. There will not be any new drivers that "unlock" more performance from the G80 cards. This doesn't count the drivers that get released to improve performance in one game or another. Thats only tweaking whats already there.

they'd have a different team working on the drivers/hardware. so it's hard to see how the two things are related.
i can see them not wanting to release any info as it'll likely harm the sale of 8800s. then again if they can save money but not releasing the new card when there's no alternative....
I dont think we'll see a new 'GTX' level card until feb/march 08.

These things take 18 months to design... unless they knew for sure 18 months ago they'd have limited competition now, it'd be stupid to sit on a design that's already complete, as much as those things cost to develop, you want it out the door and making $$$ asap.
Well, here's to hoping ATI will have something nice around November if Nvidia doesn't. :)

I dunno about that, unless it's 3-way SLI@1TF/card. :)

I think it was longer than that.
top Nvidia brass said at the GeForce FX / NV30 launch event in fall 2002 that they had teams working on NV40 and NV50.
The NV50 is, naturally, the G80 / 8800.
that's 4 years.
Also IIRC, Nvidia said G80 had been in development for over 4 years.
as for GeForce 9800 / G90 / G9x / the highend G80 refresh (not G92).... lets call it 'NV55' to avoid confusion, it makes sense for a Q1 or Q2 2008 release since AMD's R700 isn't due until Q2 '08
