Crysis quality/performance sweetspot on 8800gtx: ini tweaks and pics

I've been playing around with the ini and with the several options in order to get the best quality/performance setting for Crysis. My objective was to keep 30 fps average on the benchmark. I managed this and the game runs constantly smooth and looks great.

I'm using the latest drivers, 169.01 (see rig in signature), running in Directx10 32bit mode in 1680x1050 resolution.

Here are the settings:

And I added the following lines in the sys_spec_Shading.cfg file in crysis\game\cVarGroups folder, under [3]:

r_UsePom=1
e_terrain_normal_map=1
r_DetailTextures=1
r_DetailNumLayers=2
r_HDRRendering=2
e_vegetation_use_terrain_color=1
e_sky_type=1
e_sky_update_rate=1

Here is a screenshot with the current shaders setting, on high, with the tweaks:

Here is a comparison with the very high shaders option. While the difference is clearly noticeable, it is less so with the tweaks to the high option and the difference isn't worth the huge performance hit IMO:

Other pictures of my settings:

The game benchmarks 30 fps and the performance is constant and smooth.

Have fun. If anyone managed to find a good quality/performance spot please post your settings with pics.

Anyone figure out how to force AF in this yet?

AF is not working because he use POM (parallax occlusion mapping). Disable POM and force AF in the control panel :D

I myself prefer AF and detailed textures while only using the regular bumpmapping instead of POM and blurry textures. Its up to each and one...

I would add a few things to this config that doesnt cost any FPS but make it look better:

r_colorgrading = 1 - more natural and realistic look
r_UsePOM = 0 - give's you sharper textures and a few more FPS
r_TexturesStreaming = 0 - better graphics on mountains and distant landscapes
e_detail_materials_view_dist_xy = 4096 - better graphics on mountains and distant landscapes
e_detail_materials_view_dist_z = 256 - same

This will even give you a few more FPS than his original cfg because POM can cost up to 5 fps sometimes and only make distant and near distant textures blurry and ugly. We can only hope that this will be fixed in crysis 2 or someting :rolleyes:

Overall this is a kickass config. Everyone with a geforce 8800 graphic card should try this...

Which means that the average fps is 30 in the benchmark(note no firefights!).

Thanks for posting this! It's really an awesome config! :) Doesn't like natural mod though...

EDIT: Does anyone know why the game slows down to a crawl after 5-10minutes of gameplay? I never had this issue in XP :-/. Restarting crysis is the only way to fix it.
