Currently the only option is to use the 'nv' X driver. An 'nvidia' X driver which supports this GPU is not yet available.

It doesn't really work with the nv driver, currently, i have to use vesa...
but, can you tell me, when there will be a release of a nvidia-driver?

The exact release schedule has not been finalized, however it is a very high priority.

This is a kick in the nutz to me right now, and I am gonna have to put this awesome card in my other box with Xp on it. I am hoping for some good news so I can put this where it belongs (in my daily dual boot/wrkstation)

Which is where I game to take the stress away from my moronic job. I am very tempted to sell it, and wait for the drivers as I would imagine the price will drop by then.

I was so stoked to play some of my favorite open source games in Linux. Several of which get better FPS on a mac or NIX box.

Hurry up devs. :o This is what I get for assuming the 100.x driver would work as it does with the 8800gts.

Unfortunately the 8800GT is based on a different architecture than the GTS, which I imagine is why it isn't supported yet (somebody needs to slap some sense into the NVidia marketing department over that one;)) NVidia has generally been pretty good about getting new cards supported though so I don't anticipate a long wait.

Yes, the new G92 beats the GTS cards (according to what I've read on firingsquad). Great new card indeed! Sorry for the offtopic. :)

Re: 8800 GT

Phoronix.com claims to have some sort of insider info and the idea was to get it out end of coming week (Nov 9). I hope that'll be true, because VESA and dual monitors is kind of mutually exclusive.

Also I hope that the Geforce 9 series are based on the same architecture, so that I don't need to wait for drivers, because I'm going to use EVGA Step-Up when it comes out in the next three months.

You have to specify a year to put some pressure on them...

Over in the Solaris forum, when I asked, zander came by and said "in the next few weeks". Considering that all *nix drivers get released the same day, guess that Christmas is rather optimistic.
