N00b help
 
I am new to ubuntu 7.04 and really linux as a whole. I am trying to install the nvidia drivers for my system and it is telling me it cannot open the file..... the file is saved to the desktop and this is what i have in my terminal window

andrew@andrew-desktop:~$ sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.19-pkg1.run
sh: Can't open NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.19-pkg1.run


i am obviously doing something wrong but i cannot figure out what it is if anyone can help i would apreciate it

I too have the same issue, I'm using Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon. :|

The drivers that you are trying to install can be installed through the restricted manager from ubuntu.

No need to hack on the terminal.

If you still want to install the driver manually, then try this.

$ sudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.19-pkg1.run

I hope this helps.

print this code out and then
control-alt-f1
cd ./Desktop
sudo apt-get --purge nvidia-glx
sudo apt-get install build-essential
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
sudo ./NVIDIA*.run
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start
enjoy
