DVD player no longer works!!!
I don't get it! I installed this F'in TV tuner card, and it seems to have thrown every single piece of equipment on this computer into disarray.
does anyone know what I need to do to get this computer to play DVD's again? It used to play them just fine, but now... it doesn't play them at all. |
Re: DVD player no longer works!!!
umm uninstall the tv card?

Re: DVD player no longer works!!!
Translation: It's broke, fix it.
Did you want to take a stab at possibly being a little more descriptive in what your using, what you installed (models help), and exactly what is the problem now. But, if you decide simply to be a stick in the mud, I really couldn't care less. |
Re: DVD player no longer works!!!
Well, no... I'm not a "stick in the mud", and while I appreciate your willingness to help, your attitude seems to be a little less favorable...
The model is a Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1600 MCE. I've tried 2 DVD's so far. Star Wars Episode III, and "The Matrix: Reloaded" I get the same message on both of them. I'll give it to ya'll verbatim Media Center: "Cannot Play DVD The DVD may be in use by another application. If all other applications are close, the display resolution may need to be lowered or the display connection type may not support playback of the DVD. For more information, please go to help." For Windows Media Player "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card." I've installed a trial version of PowerDVD, and the DVD works on it. Why would this be??? If either message above was right, this program should have failed too... but it didn't. Any ideas? EDIT: BTW, the CyberLink PowerDVD is just a trial. This is not a solution. |
Re: DVD player no longer works!!!
Sorry, when people start swearing in their help requests it just puts me in a off mood.
Given the purposely vague error message that you received, and that using a trail version of dvd software fixes things, I expect you are having a codec issue. Unfortunatly if you read the fine print on their webpage http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/produ...a_hvr1600.html Quote:
However, I seem to remember that MCE has a dvd decoder codec with it (I could be wrong), to check, this application should work under vista http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en |
Re: DVD player no longer works!!!
Thanks for the tool! It seems to have helped a lot.
It says that I can sync the PowerDVD decoder with Windows media player/ media center, but I'm having trouble finding what option I can do that under. Any ideas? Sorry I'm being such a pain. I just want to get this figured out. :( |
Re: DVD player no longer works!!!
You have to change the primary codec being used.
