Shader clock speed for 8800 GTS

I have a factory OC'd FoxxConn 8800 GTS 640MB card that defaults at 575 core, 1188 shader, 900 mem. Everyone I've seen on the forum has shader clocks much, much higher than mine....1400 to 1600. That's insane. My card oc's very well, even though it's already factory oc'd. I've tested it at 605\1250\1003 speeds w/ no problems at all, could go farther but don't see a need (until Crysis is released maybe).

When I oc the shader I get some very nice performance gains.....so my quaetion is how is everyone getting such high shader clocks? I'm air cooled and run the stock fan at 100%. Any feedback would be appreciated.

BTW, I ran the Crysis Demo @ 1440x900 widescreen rez w/ all settings set to high except the post processing, which I set to medium......smooth and fluid gameplay:D .

thats because they used substandard shaders . When a Chip fails its tests they sell the cards off to lesser companies and they down clock them... :p

Wow. I find that hard to beleive as FoxxConn is a very well made card from what I've read. I did some research before I purchased this card. It's a excellent performer, oc's like crazy. It performs on par, or above, most other 8800 GTS's from what I've seen.

Maybe I should see just how far I can push the shader clock.:D

For best results, don't manually adjust the Shader Clock. What I mean is, assuming you are using the latest drivers and Rivatuner, make sure you have Rivatuner set to Auto Adjust the Shader Clock when you adjust the Core/Memory. Manually adjusting can work, but you have to know what increments the card works in as well. On my 8800GTS 640MB, I manually adjusted the Shader Clock once and it performed great...for about 10-20 minutes then the screen would wig out (playing Rainbow Six Vegas). Anyways, good luck.

Try push further, im curious to see how far you can go,:captnkill:

My shader runs at 1674 perfectly with every GPU stress test i can throw at it.
My stocks were: 513/1188/1584

Clocks at 605/1450/2006 w/ no problems......Played twice thru Crysis demo all high settings @ 1400x900 :D SWEET!!

I'll push the shader a bit higher just for grins.....let you know.

you will gain a "larger then normal" performance increase in crysis with the faster shaders. See how high you can clock them, then back down a few MHz, and lock that sucker down, and game away. My 640mb GTS runs @ 648c/1620s/2000m. Everything seems to run just fine.

Update..............

Running 605c/1600s/2006m rock solid stable!!:D :D

So much for "substandard shaders";)

Love my 8800 GTS 640MB!!!

Use Nbittor(spelling), its an Nvidia BIOS editor utility and nvflash. use nvflash to get a backup of your cards bios, use the editor to edit your clocks to 605 for the core, it should be there already, 1500 or 1600 for the shaders(i'd start at 1500) and set your memory to like 800-850mhz, save and then reflash you card with the edited BIOS. and test and repeat if you wish, just make sure to keep a good safe backup copy of your current BIOS though incase something majorly bad happens. You can reflash back to the original BIOS.
