Graphical errors with 169.04 with KDE and x86_64

Two minor graphical issues:

The 'bouncing cursor' background is corrupted. (ex1.png)

There are several ghost icons in the tray when using the Nvidia beta driver that I didn't have before installing it. (ex2.png)

I've attached .png files showing both problems, and my nvidia-bug-report.log

There are graphical errors in several Qt Applications and
some in OpenGL 3D Games as well.

Example: ut2004, with the Flak Cannon and explosions:
there are artifacts around the bullets and explosions.

Since this is a beta driver it is not that bad,
but I'd like to see this fixed in the release driver.

change your module section to look like this:
Section "Module"
Load "dbe"
Load "extmod"
Load "type1"
Load "freetype"
Load "glx"
EndSection

and remove that aiglx option.

retry. problem still present?

@bitmage/NvFuchs: I assume these are regressions, i.e. the problems are not present in 100.14.xx?

Re: Graphical errors with 169.04 with KDE and x86_64

at least i did not notice them with the old driver.

As for ut2004: I have to double check that
with the old driver.

As for qt: this might be compiz related,
as the easiest way of reproducing it is by using
workspaces of compiz
(to describe the bug: in some qt programs,
amarok and mldonkey as examples,
the font is getting mangled in the statusbar
at the bottom when the window was on
a different viewport and then is displayed.
The fonts look normal after either the text
gets updated or the window is fully updated
(shaded then unshaded / minimized then unminimized)
it is hard to check for that.

However, I did not notice those until I installed
the beta driver, but I will doublecheck today
or tomorrow by installing the old, stable driver.

As brightnes control only works with beta
I'd like to stick with it.

If the problem doesn't reproduce with the 100.14.xx drivers, please try adding Option "UseCompositeWrapper" to the Screen section of xorg.conf with 169.04 and see if that fixes the problem.

Re: Graphical errors with 169.04 with KDE and x86_64

1) All the problems do not occur with older drivers
2) The Wrapper option is a workaround to the mangled fonts,
however:

3) Some things in ut2004 are still weird.
There is still an issue with explosions made by
rocket launchers or the flak cannon, and some
preview images in the map selection are broken.
This is fine with older drivers

4) X crashed twice today, both times when I
started kaffeine. One time with sdl driver,
one time with xv. Sadly there was nothing
in the Xorg.log that would have explained this.

I disabled compiz: no difference.
I changed my nvidia options
(FastWrite and AGPSBA disabled),
no difference.

As for my config: I attached the nvidia bug log
in the post above.

I do know that it is still a beta driver,
and I hope that you are able to fix things.

Thanks in advance,

Fuchs

That fixed the problem of the bouncing cursor background, thanks!

Same problem for Amarok with x86_64 and a 8800 GTS 320.

The statusbar font corruption workaround "UseCompositeWrapper" works for me !
