Two questions about 169.04

I've enabled the coolbits option so I can underclock the card (to save power/heat when I'm just using 2D). Dropping the sliders to the minimum settings (150 Gpu/225 Mem) locks the system. Didn't know if that was expected behavior. A setting of 150 Gpu/450 Mem seems to work fine.

An xset -q shows "DPMS (Energy Star): Server does not have the DPMS Extension", so I can't set powerdown options for my display. Should this be working?

yes it should. check your xorg.conf

add this:
Option "DPMS"
to your monitor section

@bitmage: finding the best stable clock configuration is non-trivial in both the over- and underclocking case, it doesn't surprise me that certain combinations of the GPU and memory clocks may pass the driver's sanity checks and subsequently lead to stability problems.

It's already present, but not working.

Make sure you have Load "extmod" in the "Modules" section of xorg.conf.

That did it, thanks. I let the installer configure my xorg.conf file for me, but it only put in
Load "glx"
as an option and was missing all the rest. It also didn't remove the
Option "AIGLX" "on"
setting.
