Hi,
is there something to overclock a 8600M GT under linux.

I tryed nvclock but it doesn't seem to work.

Thanks!

At the moment there is no way to do this. I plan to add Geforce8 support to NVClock soon but it is not done yet.

Edit your xorg.conf and change (add one line) the following:
Code:

Section "Device"
    [...]

    Option "Coolbits" "1"

    [...]
EndSection

Then use nvidia-settings to change your clockfrequencies. That should do the job. Read here for more information about how to make the changes last when you restart etc.:

Nvidia-settings doesn't support overclocking of mobile hardware.

Re: Linux overclocking.

That's strange, because I also have a 8600M GT, and I have an option called Clock Frequencies right under GPU 0 - (GeForce 8600M GT) where I can adjust 2D- and 3D-clock frequencies (if I check the "Enable Overclocking"-checkbox).

You mean those settings won't make any difference? Huh, wierd..

You can use the NV-CONTROL interface to underclock mobile GPUs, only overclocking is disabled.

:(
Are you planning to enable overclock in the next driver release?

No, I don't expect overclocking will be supported on notebooks (due to thermal constraints).

Notebook GPU + OC = melted Notebook GPU ;)

This is strange because my 8600M GT can support 8700M frequency without problem and without temperature increase respect original frequency.
