XF86Config file
1 Attachment(s)
Does anyone know what's wrong with my XF86Config file? I've tried just about everything. X just WON'T start. Typing "XFree86" show the nVidia splash screen, and then the grey screen appears.

Currently the error message I get says that the chipset cannot run the selected display mode. This is set as "generic", but changing it to nvidia gives me another error....

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Post the log from a startx -- -logverbose 5 run. The problem probably isn't your config file, since XFree86 starts up just fine.

Where can I find the log file?

The error message it gives is:

giving up
XINIT: Connection refused (errno 111): Unable to connect to X server
XINIT: No such process (errno 3): Server error

That's not the actual error; that's just a result of the X server dying.

The log file is in /var/log, with the rest of your logs.
