Crysis Demo...Round 2

So I tried the Crysis demo when I had a Pentium 4 3.4 GHz (the rest of the system minus the motherboard was the same) and it ran frame by frame at High.

I decided it was time to upgrade my processor and motherboard (video card and memory in time). I got a Core 2 Duo E8400 and a new X38 based DDR2 motherboard (DDR3 prices are too hot for me).

So...I tested BioShock and it loads super quick and runs without any hitches now. I still need a new graphics card to get the most out of it (DirectX10).

Then...I decided to try COD4. It used to run frame by frame. Now it runs smooth as butter, but my graphics card limits me again here.

TF2 runs silk smooth now (it used to have some jerkiness with the Pentium 4).

CRYSIS...Pentium 4 ran it frame by frame at High settings. Core 2 Duo E8400 runs it...the same?? So this game makes no use of the Core 2 Duo's tech or power. It's like I'm still running it on a Pentium 4.

Verdict...This game is GPU sensitive and doesn't make use of the CPU at all (about 40% at best). Upgrade your graphics card...CPU doesn't matter for this game. Maybe in a future patch they can actually make it use the full power of the CPU, but at this point...I'll pass on this game.

I tried! I upgraded my CPU and motherboard. Everything else runs a hell of a lot better except for 2 games (which don't make use of dual core tech) Crysis and STALKER.

I'll wait for the 9800 GTX to come out and see if the price on the 8800 GTS (G92) falls below $300 and I'll snag it and give it another go.

BTW...I'm using the Pre-release Demo.

* Correction...was using the Pre-release Demo. Uninstalled now.

yeah crysis needs a very good gfx card the 7800gtx is a little old for your fine cpu otherwise, upgrade card and you will see crysis run better.

It's already well below $300:

Well when the new high-end 9 series comes out, it should drop even more.

Also, don't you guys find it strange that STALKER and CRYSIS had no improvement with a new CPU? STALKER always ran like crap and doesn't make much use of dual core, but CRYSIS was said to use multicore tech. Heck, they even advertise the Intel Core 2 Extreme in the Pre-release demo (not that it matters). The X-Ray engine and the CryEngine2 for me are two very unoptimized engines.

Crysis isn't really that CPU dependent, more GPU dependent. But certainly having anything better than a P4 should help out in some cases where the CPU is being stressed a little bit more (explosions/physics, scenes with a lot of AI, etc)
