My benchmark testing, what OC really does to crysis.
 
Hello, i just got the benchmark tool working. So i decided to test it out in crysis. I tested it on my old drivers first (pic 1) then downloaded the latest beta drivers 174.74 (pic 2). Then i wanted to see what Overclocking did to crysis(pic 3). Comments are welcome!


Well, here is my system and the results:

Intel C2D E8400
Geforce 8800GTX
2GB of ram
Windows XP pro

Fist picture is taken with the old drivers and no overclocking.
Second picture is taken with the new beta drivers and i gained approximately 2.4 fps.
Third picture is taken with the new drivers and here i also overclocked my 8800gtx (pretty much as much as i could on the stock cooler) and gained about 4 fps.



Now, as you can see below i found this pertty interesting.

I figured out that going from 1280x to 1600x cost me as much as about 15 fps. Whyle staying at 1280x and adding 4xAA cost about 10 fps. Pretty interesting.

Conclusion, updating your drivers and adding some OC to your graphic card could raise your ingame fps by about 6 - 7 fps. And thats not bad if you run the game at 20, 20 and 27 fps is pretty much in crysis, anyway after my experience.


That's my 2 cents. I will do some more testing when i get a new CPU cooler so i can see what CPU overclocking does to crysis. Peace!

That's some very interesting stuff, I can't wait till I get my new 9800GTX and OC it and my Q6600. :captnkill:

Sounds sweet mate, make sure to benchmark it and post the result here in the crysis thread. Also some before and after overclocking comparision shots would be nice, I heard that the 9800gtx is so cool it can overclock very well. Can't wait for the result ;)

Yeah, I can't wait either.
If you wouldn't mind posting a link to the program you used it would be great.

I'll try and get a before and after, I just OCd my Q6600 to 3.01 ghz so I can do one now with that and my 8800GT and then one after with my Q6600 (maybe ocd higher) and my 9800GTX.



Again, those screenshots of yours are awesome. Very useful information. :D

It also provides any information you want on screen ingame, just like fraps but better ;) Very usefull

I got this (And CPU Z is all wacked up. my cpu's supposed to be running at 3.2 ghz..which is what the bios and POST screen indicate)

Nah CPU-Zis right it looks as if you have SpeedStep(C1E) enabled in the bios. down clocking you from 9X to 6X

does the speed step thing hinder performance? I'll have to go check that tonight after work. If I right click on my computer and hit properties, it shows it running at the correct speed.

I found the side stepping (C1E) and disabled it. CPUZ now reads the correct value but benchmark numbers are identical.

oh well... like they're anything to complain about.
