Downloading/installing fonts on Fedora 8

Hello all,

How on GOD's GREEN AND BLUE EARTH do I install fonts on linux?

I'm trying to run Xdmx to have a desktop spread over multiple monitors via TCP, however, I get this error:

Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/, removing from list!

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

I checked the folder and there's only a libdmx.a file (I have no idea what it does, btw).

How can I get those dammed fonts and install them??

Much appreciated. :D

Kde has a font installer in the control panel (not sure about gnome), or I think on Fedora you should be able to place them in the /usr/share/fonts folder.

After you log out and back in they should be present.

Re: Downloading/installing fonts on Fedora 8

Well, after looking around and searching I found some of the required fonts on the folder you mentioned (:p).

I have since discovered that it seems the lack of fonts was due to a bad install, so I am now reinstalling dmx to see if that fixes it.
I'm now getting a simple connection error, which I think is due to the fact that connections are not being accepted by the second computer.

Work work work!

It turns out the lack of fonts was due to a bad installation regarding Xdmx (see my other thread).

64bit fedora and the 32bit rpms I used didn't want to play nice.

Thank god for Yum. :)

I imagine they didn't. Glad you got it sorted out.
