RH9 nforce driver problems
I have just installed Red Hat 9 (2.4.20-8 kernel) on my Shuttle SN41G2 computer (Shuttle FN41 motherboard) and was able to get the audio component and network card working with the linux driver with the NVIDIA_nforce_1.0-0248.tar.gz package.

I upgraded my RH9 kernel to 2.4.20-9 and the network card refused to be recognised after applying the nforce drivers.

After looking through the messages in this forum it would seem that the latest driver is NOT on the "Linux and FreeBSD Drivers" page on the nvidia site (http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=linux) and that there is a later driver NVIDIA_nforce_1.0-0256.tar.gz available.

I attempted to compile the NVIDIA_nforce_1.0-0256.tar.gz drivers and this time the network component compiled and installed and the network card is now operating correctly but the audio component failed to compile with the following messages:

nvcrush.c: In function `Nvaudio_mmapwrite':
nvcrush.c:426: warning: passing arg 1 of `remap_page_range_R2baf18f2' makes pointer from integer without a cast
nvcrush.c:426: incompatible type for argument 4 of `remap_page_range_R2baf18f2'
nvcrush.c:426: too few arguments to function `remap_page_range_R2baf18f2'
nvcrush.c: In function `Nvaudio_mmap':
nvcrush.c:465: warning: passing arg 1 of `remap_page_range_R2baf18f2' makes pointer from integer without a cast
nvcrush.c:465: incompatible type for argument 4 of `remap_page_range_R2baf18f2'
nvcrush.c:465: too few arguments to function `remap_page_range_R2baf18f2'
make[2]: *** [nvcrush.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [all] Error 2
make: *** [nvaudio_make] Error 2

First the nvidia linux drivers page needs to be updated to point to the latest driver, and does anyone know why the audio component fails to compile?

I have RH9 on my new shuttle as well and everything works except my NIC.... could you state again where you found the driver that makes you shttle NIC operate properly...

The driver can be found at:

and the nvnet works for 2.4.20-9.

However, I didnt ever get the sound working and now use the alsa sound drivers:

NOTE: There is a problem compiling the alsa 0.9.3 driver software with RH9 and if you get an unresolved symbol error when you try load the sound module with:

modprobe snd-intel8x0

then add a touch command after ./configure and before make:

./configure --with-cards=intel8x0 --with-sequencer=yes
touch include/linux/workqueue.h
make install

which disables ALSA workqueue wrapper.

The ALSA sound drivers work really well and the error above is now being worked on to fix it for the next ALSA distribution.

compile problems... help
I have the SN41G2 Shuttle as well...

Finally got past upgrading the kernel... for a newbie that took some doing... I'm now at 2.4.20-9 like harleym suggested... but now I'm trying to compile the nic driver from NVIDIA_nforce_1.0-0256.tar.gz...

Inside the nforce directory typing "make" fails... so I went into nvnet directory hoping that just the NIC driver would compile and typed make there and that didn't work either..

I think I have some build components missing or some libraries missing or a bad path... not sure... the make errors report:

"nvnet.c:99: Storage size of 'nvnet_driver' isn't known"

what does that mean?

My nvnet compiled fine - it was only the audio component that didnt work.

Sorry I dont know how to help you.
