Intel X-25 SSD drives, WOW!!!
It looks like we are finally getting SSD drives. Here's Anandtech review of the incoming X-25 drive from Intel (starts shipping this week, price of the 80 Gb model is $595 for 1000 units). It crushes current OCZ offerings, but price is double. However performance is sometimes more than double, no more pauses and langs during multitasking.

Re: Intel X-25 SSD drives, WOW!!!
What about all the stuff I keep reading about performance of SSD drives dropping significantly during multitasking?
I read a review on newegg where someone said they were getting drops to the 20Mb\sec range in multitasking with on of the OCZ drives, which is horribly slow for a modern drive. EDIT: Nevermind, I guess I should have read the article. :retard: :p Here is their summary at the end... Quote:

Re: Intel X-25 SSD drives, WOW!!!
OCZ forums are plagged with people complaining about stutering, pauses, freezes... sometimes Windows just "hangs" for a couple of seconds. Those Intel drives seem to fix all those problems

Re: Intel X-25 SSD drives, WOW!!!
I just read the whole thing. I think that was the best article anandtech has done in a long time and one of the best I've read anywhere recently. Very informative and technical but still understandable.
I can't wait till the price on these drives comes down significantly. My next drives will still be mechanical, but once I can get 160Gb SSD drive that performs like Intel's MLC (or an SLC) in the $200 range I'll buy one for sure. That's years away, but that's the minimum size I'd want for any drive that's going to be holding my OS, programs and games. |
Re: Intel X-25 SSD drives, WOW!!!
I see alot of people discounting the 32gb drives, but wouldnt that be a pretty sweet spot for a OS install? Vista mainly, XP dont take up that much space really..
And with some space to spare for all that clutter that tends to build up.. Then a larger one for games and apps, and "static" storage stuff on a HD. |

For me I'd like to have 2 x 64GB in a RAID 0 array, so I can have everything on one logical drive letter and still have speed. |
Re: Intel X-25 SSD drives, WOW!!!
Would using raid 0 sort of increase the longevity of these drives? Since you'd be storing less on each drive.

Re: Intel X-25 SSD drives, WOW!!!
I really want one of these. Thanks Slawter.

But yes, using raid 0 would increase longevity as the data is stripped more or less evenly on both drives. |
Re: Intel X-25 SSD drives, WOW!!!
Im debating. but the price is killer

Re: Intel X-25 SSD drives, WOW!!!
This thread is really old.

Re: Intel X-25 SSD drives, WOW!!!
Indeed. Is the Intel X25 still the best SSD to get?
