PNY 260 overheating
 

Just curious if anyone else has had similar issues with this card. My problem doesn't seem to be as bad as the 280's reported issueus where it jumps to 105 within 90 seconds... but even at stock speeds crysis will push it to 100C and crash it within about 15 minutes or so. I don't have a very well vented case but it does have two 30 mm fans.

Just trying to discern if this is an isolated incident or not. Thanks!

if your case is not well ventilated your going to have problems. those 2 30s will not do.

Ok, well I just took off the side panel of the case, leaving the card completely in open air, and ran the crysis gpu benchmark again. With stock speeds the temp still got up to 86C. Is this normal?

Yes, it's normal. An open case won't net you all that much of a benefit.

Adjust the fan speed on your card with one of the software tools out there (like RivaTuner) for the heavy-hitting games. This should help.

I'm actually using RivaTuner to monitor the temps, etc. From watching the stock auto adjust fan setting in action, I don't see how manually adjusting my fans is going to have any benefit. On my card when the temp gets to about 70C or so, the fan automatically goes full bore 100% anyway... how would me manually setting it 100 help anything? It's nice to use auto adjust for the simple reason that it automatically lowers the fan down to 40 after the card cools down.

you can also cut a hole on the side of the case over the card and put a fan on it. that lowered the temps on my old pc by 30c.
