Interesting bug with 177.70 in KDE4
I've been investigating some slowdowns in KDE4, specifically that when you click anything on the desktop, it takes anywhere from 1-3 seconds for KDE to start launching, or respond. I've just found out today, that it *only* occurs when I'm using the nvidia driver. Right now I'm using 177.70, but if I switch to the vanilla "nv" driver, or even "vesa" the problem goes away, and KDE4 feel super-responsive again.

This is occurring on PC-BSD 7.0 systems (FreeBSD 7.1-Prerelease), using various Geforce cards, 8600GTS, GF 6200, dual-core systems, no compositing, etc. Is this something anybody else has noticed, or you guys plan on fixing when the final 177.xx driver is out?

Re: Interesting bug with 177.70 in KDE4
I asked one of the KDE devs about this problem, and here is what they said:

plasma uses argb visuals and Qt uses xrender in ways that the current stable
nvidia drivers puke on.

the new beta drivers resolve these issues however.
Is this fixed in the Linux beta drivers but not the FreeBSD ones? Is there any plan to correct this in the final release?

Follow up to this issue:

I've tested this again on 2 systems with 177.80 on PC-BSD 7.0.1 (FreeBSD 7.1 PreRelease), and the issue remains.

System 1 is running Twinview on 2 monitors, with a GeForce 8600GTS PCI-X.
System 2 is running a single monitor with a later model 8600 PCI-X again.

As usual, switching to VESA mode fixes the problem, and clicking anything in plasma / desktop runs super-fast.

Attached is the bug-report from System 1 with Twinview
