Noob Q About How To Tell If CPUS Damaged?
Hey guys, i started a thread about overclocking using the factory heatsink, im just wondering, since i got it pretty dam hot to the point the machine powered itself off (100+degrees), how would i tell if theres any damage done to the cpu?
It's powered off roughly 4 times all up when i was just messing around with voltages, but now im running stock clocks again and just want to know if its possible that ive done some damage somewhere? |
Re: Noob Q About How To Tell If CPUS Damaged?
Possible, but honestly it's probably okay. There is a reason why it shuts down when it does. This is a safety precaution to keep it from being damaged. If it were going to be damaged at that temp, they would probably lower the threshold.
Heat usually isn't the one to damage a processor, it's going wild with the voltages that can cause it to break. By wild I don't mean a slight bump, but more like a huge increase say by .5V or something. |
Re: Noob Q About How To Tell If CPUS Damaged?
Yeah, as Bman said, the shut down is there to protect it from damage. Not to let it get damaged then shut off. I'd say you're probably okay. Running it at extremely hot temps for an extended period of time (say just below the threshold of safety shutdown) will probably cause damage over time. But for short periods of time I don't see any side effects.
Definitely don't let that happen again though. Get some better cooling on that sucka! |

thanks for the responses, temp problems fixed and the cpus fine, was able to run prime 95 and intel burn test over night and all was fine.
