Windows update help

1 Attachment(s)
Hi, I keep getting error code 80070424 whenever i try to search for windows updates. its been like it for a couple of weeks now and ive searched all the net trying to find a solution but nothing has solved the problem. ive even had help from microsoft themselves but still the problem persists.

I hope someone here can help otherwise im going to have to wipe my system clean which does seem to be the only way to get it working again.

Ive attached a pic of the error. if you need anything else fom me please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any replies

Dai :)

Re: Windows update help

Install the latest Windows Update Agent 3.0 x64 (Got the 64bit info from your Sig.) ;)
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=91238

Install through command prompt with /wuforce switch.
so it will be like this windowsupdateagent30-x64.exe /wuforce

Click on start/Run, type cmd in the Run message box
when the command prompt window opens - go to the folder where you downloaded the file.
It'll be something like this:

What error(s) are showing up in the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log?

Re: Windows update help

Do you have Service Pack 1 installed by any chance?

Re: Windows update help

No service pack 1 is not installed.

Error messages in log are:

FATAL: Applicability evaluation for setup package "WUClient-SelfUpdate-ActiveX~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~7.2.6001.788" failed, error = 0x80070424

FATAL: SelfUpdate check failed, err = 0x80070424

WARNING: Skipping scan, self-update check returned 0x80070424

WARNING: Exit code = 0x80070424

End

Re: Windows update help

Make sure that BITS and the Automatic Updates service are started. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.
In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.
If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.
In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.
If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

If BITS isn't in the list let me know & I'll have another fix for you.
