ubuntu Hardy 180.22

On ubuntu Hardy 32 bit, kernel 2.6.24-23 latest 180.22 linux driver fails to install, configure or start X propperly. Many people having same type of issue. I have been installing and compiling nvidia drivers and modules for a while now, this driver should install just as well as all previous, what is wrong?

Also I use two kernels one is generic and the other rt , I always install on one and build the module for the other, no issues, but this driver just won't work.:thumbdwn:

Please fix!

Joe

Re: ubuntu Hardy 180.22

Please check your experimental repository.
I think this is the best way to build a driver for a debian based system.

debian sample:

as root:

install module-assistant and build dependencies:
apt-get install module-assistant
m-a prepare

remove your old nvidia drivers:
apt-get --purge remove nvidia-kernel-$(uname -r)
apt-get --purge remove nvidia-glx
apt-get --purge remove nvidia-kernel-source

than download the nvidia source
apt-get install -t experimental nvidia-kernel-source

build the driver:
m-a a-i nvidia

install the nvidia-glx
apt-get install -t experimental nvidia-glx

reboot

I have got the same problem. 180.11 works fine. Xorg.conf is fine. This is definitely not user error.

Edit: I am using Intrepid 8.10

I had the same problem. The instructions here - which are very similar to Gregor As above- worked for me.

Re: ubuntu Hardy 180.22

Has this posted fixes worked for anyone? I have not tried them yet myself. When I try uninstalling some of those packages synaptic tells me it will remove the 2.6.24-23-generic package. I really don't think this is the way to go. As I mentioned all past drivers have always installed successfully and compiling the modules for the other kernel always worked. I don't think this has to be done for this specific driver.

Re: ubuntu Hardy 180.22

Well, I did try the obvious an removed ll the restricted modules and nvidia-kernel-common packages. Succesfully installed 180.22, but to tell you the truth this driver is not so good here on my pc. With 177.82 I had a framerate of 16K to 17K (@ 5 sec) with glxgears, and with 180.22 it dropped to 13K and some minor glitches when minimizing windows and fading desktop on logout just didn't seem smooth as in 177.82 so I just went back to 177.82
