Are the new 55nm GTX260's Quiet?

Compared to an EVGA 8800GTS 512 card, how does the default fan profile sound? I've only found one review so far on these new cards so I'm looking for more opinions before I buy. I've been through a couple of HD4870's now and they were all too loud for my taste.

1. How quiet are the new cards?

2. Is there any real difference (noise-wise) between the stock version and "SC" versions?

Tomorrow I get the EVGA 1258 (675MHz) 55nm 260-216 card. I'll try to remember to post back here. It's my first dual-slot card. Previously I had a 7800gs with a super quiet Zalman setup. If it is noisy, I wonder what kind of after market coolers fit these new boards.

It is subjective but I do belive my g260 (not the 55nm one though) is a bit more quiet then my old gainward 8800gt. The 8800gt did not use the reference fan tough pic. It was a dual slot cooling solution. Fan house was perforated and open on the sides.

With default fan the gtx260 will go up to 50% temperature at that point is around 74c (40% fan at idle 44c)

Be nice to see some input from a 55nm user :)

My brother bought one and I got to use it for a couple of days(his mobo broke) - and I can say for a fact that it is more quiet than my 8800GTS 512mb that's for sure. :)

As for how it compares to the regular 216 version I can't say, but to me it didn't sound loud after a couple of hours of playing crysis warhead and gta iv.

I have a 55nm GTX 260 SC overclocked beyond the default SC speed. Mine runs completely stable and artifact free at 720/1440/1134. The default fan profile is 40% which is inaudible. In fact, it's not until I raise the fan speed to 55% that I can even hear it running and even that's completely tolerable. I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to noise so I don't exceed 55% fan speed and it runs cool enough. Load temps are around 75-78c under the worst scenarios such as OCCT GPU Test. Most games run around 68-72c. It will run slightly cooler with higher fan speed profiles but it's just not worth a slight temperature drop for me to have to listen to the fan, but that's just MY opinion.

Nice!

Yup, the fan on mine never seems to increase in speed. It's super quiet. Using stock "SSC" 675MHz speed.
update: Which is turning out to be a problem. Card appears to get too hot and freeze.
