GDM greeter on wrong monitor with TwinView

As per the subject-line ... no matter what I do, the GDM greeter always appears on the wrong monitor of a pair managed by TwinView. I have TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder set to the monitor I want to be primary for my desktop, and that appears to function perfectly once I've logged in (ie. the panel appears on the correct desktop), but the greeter doesn't appear to pay any attention to this option setting.

This is GDM 2.24.0 from Fedora 10. Before I dive into more X configuration details, has anyone seen anything like this before?

Cheers,

Miles

Yes mine does it too, on Fedora 10, 9, and one earlier Fedora (FC 3 ?)
Fedora 6, 7, and 8 work fine

Hi!

In "/etc/gdm/custom.conf", there is an entry "[greeter]".
Adding "XineramScreen=1" underneath should do it.

What I plan to do is to get the source for multiple GDM versions,
and compare them via Meld or WinMerge to isolate what changed between Fedora8 and Fedora 9/10 in GDM. I think FC3 had this problem too..

BTW: no combinations of Xinerama switches solves this problem on my box.

Re: GDM greeter on wrong monitor with TwinView

I've unpacked the source rpms for gdm (for Fedora 7, 8, 9, 10), and ahad a quick look.
In gdm-2.20.5 (Fedora 8), gdm would use Xinerama to get the list of monitors.

Then gdm had a major rewrite, In which they ripped out a bunch of functionality,
including it seems, said Xinerama code.
(ref. gdm-2.22.0,Fedora 9)

My guess would be that they did that for faster boot times.

I'm still working on it.
