Geforce 4 Go and X-Server Problem with shutdown
Hi!
I have a Inspiron 8200 with a Geforce 4 Go with 64MB and a working SUSE 7.3! I have also successfully installed the nVidia drivers and my X-Server is working well! So I could be happy!? Yes and NO! Shutting down the system is in the text mode no problem but when I have start the x-server and then I try to switch back in text mode (directly or indirectly with the shutdown-command) or in another runlevel my system will hang :o( Also a Ctrl-Alt-Del will crush the system like every other X-Server stopping act. I looked in the /var/log/messages file and saw that the nvidia driver did infinitly allocate and freed memory. Here seems to be a problem, but I'm not sure. Thx for ANY help ;-)) robi |
why not a Ctrl Alt Backspace to finish
the x-session to go back in textmode, or click on a preinstalled quit or logout buttom. |
Switching back to console is buggy on Laptops using the nvidia drivers. There's one workaround that fixes the problem: use vesafb as a framebuffer driver for the console, then it will work fine.
