4 Monitors dual Twinview problems
 
Hello,

I'm trying to get 4 monitors on two gpu's working. I want dual twinview setups, one on each gpu acting as separate X screens. The problem is that I can get two of the screens to almost work. Configured as Screen0. But the windows maximize across both screens so things aren't quite right. Also the second screen doesn't seem to be accessible, I can't send programs to it. Can anyone see where I have gone wrong?

Hi!

You need to enable Xinerama (set it to "1") in order to be able to move
applications across screen boundaries. Second, you need to define a
separate screen for each output in order to expand windows to displays
boundaries.

However, those two above mentioned actions come with a price.

Hello,

I will checkout your suggestions, I don't want to move windows between the two twinview screens, it is fine if I can just use them separately, or send things used display= etc.

Hello,

So using one of your examples I am further towards my goal just not there yet.

So I now have two twinview setups of 2 monitors each a separate X session. Part one achieved. I can have kde4.2 on the bottom monitors and until they sort out having two kde sessions I can start icewm on the top two using the command.

DISPLAY=:0.1 icewm &

It looks like the problems was that I have to call the crt attached to gpu0 crt-1 and the crt attached to gpu1 crt-0. If I don't screen0 doesn't load. I anyone can explain that I would be interested.

Unfortunately when I maximize any window it goes right across which ever twinview screen it is on and doesn't respect either TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder or TwinViewXineramaInfoOverride. I have posted my revised xorg.conf.

The Xinerama extension can't deal with multiple X screens, so there's no way for the driver to communicate the TwinView layouts to your applications.
