8400GS and crackling noises with DVI connection

After a long journy with my 9400GT I decided to downgrade, in order to get a normal working Nvidia card.
I installed the new 8400GS and I'm now able to hear analog sound while the card is connected through DVI but:
I still hear crackling noises from my Metz 26'' TV every now and then, it is to annoying so I decided to hook it through VGA.
Any idea how to solve these noises?
I tried changing the EDID but then I get only 1080p while the TV's native is 720p (I was able to get 720p before I used the EDID fix).
thank you.

I was having the same issue with my 8400GS and DVI connection to RP TV at 1080i. I was going to switch back to component out because it didn't have that issue, and I think the DAC's are better on the card then in the TV.

I feel ignorant but what is DAC?

Re: 8400GS and crackling noises with DVI connection

DAC stands for Digital to Analog Converter. DVI is digital. VGA is analog. If you plug a DVI cable into a CRT then the DACs inside the monitor are used. If you use the VGA cable instead, then the DACs on the card are used.

There is no real benefit to using DVI for a CRT, in fact, as your case shows, it could be worse than using the VGA cable.

I was misunderstood probably.
I'm not using a CRT but a LCD 26'' TV (Metz), with native resolution of 720p.
And because thats the case I don't no why I get worse picture through DVI.
thank you.

Try setting the resolution for the tv by a Option "PreferredMode" "1280x720" in Xorg.conf.

Also, until nvidia gives us a option to disable the DVI audio channel, or lets use it with alsa, the option is to use a edited EDID without the extensions, check this thread and this one also.
