Which hardware to buy
Having wasted more of my life than I can spare trying to get ATI graphics cards working , it has come time to buy a new machine (entire desktop computer) in I've always liked AMD CPUs but sadly now they are linked with ATI graphics I think I need to avoid them.

So I'm looking for advice for which hardware to buy .

Obviously for I would much rather use the open source drivers and I gather that this means that most of the snazzy 3-D glitz is unusable (happy to be proved wrong) . So I guess what I'm looking for is stable (need not be fast) hardware that has decent support preferably in open source drivers.

I'm hoping the distiction is clear here. I'm not trying to find a driver for whatever hardware I happen to have bought ... MY HARDWARE PURCHASE is entirely conditional on a decent (open) driver.
