180.60 & High CPU

1 Attachment(s)
Running Debian Testing with a 9300 IGP, & core2duo 2GHz CPU.

With every driver rev I've tried above 180.29, Xwindows consumes much CPU whenever I take any action. Just refreshing a webpage takes it from 20% to 95% CPU, and the web page can take 5 seconds to load because it is CPU-bound, as opposed to instantly. Everything is slower and causes the CPU to jump, including holding down a letter to repeat.

Right now as I'm entering this post Xorg is consuming 60% CPU, and I am not doing anything. A while back I noticed this with the 185 drvers so reverted back to 180.29, which fixed it. But now I'm on 180.60 and it's happening again.

Anyone know why?

Really?
Nobody?

When X consumes massive amounts of CPU for even the littlest things, doesn't anyone know a way to tease out what aspect of it is doing all this work?

I saw high CPU usage a couple of weeks ago when I upgraded my main MythTV frontend from a slightly out of date version of sid to current sid. I downgraded from backups and the problem went away. I hope to try upgrading again next week and narrow the problem down to either Xorg or KDE4.

This is happening on a machine which only runs mythfrontend... and all the time, even when that's not running.

uh? You say you have a 9300 IGP, but your log says you have a

Other than that, there could be a problem with interrupts?

The remote machine has the 1600, and the HTPC has the 9300.

Nah, deinstalling unused drivers didn't fix it. It's now idling at 70% CPU.

OK, I see that many others have the problem and I have a good lead on the cause. Unfortunately xserver is ignoring my corrective actions.

Now it's clear; this can't be fixed.

Try updating to 185.*

Running latest 185.18.14 and I notice no such issues, in fact the CPU usage and memory usage is down by bit, CPU now usually hovers around 0 to 4% max when doing any activities. I have a dual quad core with low end nvidia 8400GS.
