Can't wake up display when using Synergy

1 Attachment(s)
I have a Windows XP PC and a Linux system running CentOS 5.3 that share the PC's keyboard and mouse using the Synergy utility. For those of you not familiar with this utility, it allows you to use a keyboard and mouse that is attached to one computer on multiple computers. Unlike a physical KVM switch, you need a monitor (the "V" part of KVM) on each system. If you move the mouse off the screen on one computery it magically appears on another (you configure Synergy by describing the physical arrangement of the monitors on your desk).

Everything works great until I don't use the Linux system for 20 minutes and the NVIDIA graphics card goes into power saving mode. When that happens, I can not wake up the display by moving the mouse into it (with Synergy). I have verified that mouse and keyboard events are being received on the Linux system when the display is asleep, but the system is not usable as the screen is black. The only way to wake it up is to generate an event from the physical keyboard or mouse that are attached to the Linux system. But I keep them tucked under my desk and they are a bit of a pain to reach.

One solution (albeit not the ideal one) would be to disable the power saving mode, but I haven't figured out how to do that. Ideally, I'd like to have the NVIDIA driver respond to the Synergy generated keyboard or mouse events and wake up, but I don't know if that's possible. I did not have this problem with CentOS 5.2 and a slightly older version of the NVIDIA driver, although at least one person did (we have about 40 CentOS systems in use).

I've attached the (slightly sanitized) nvidia-bug-report.sh output if that helps. Please help me disable the power saving mode of the NVIDIA adapter or figure out how to get the NVIDIA driver to respond to Synergy events if that is possible.

Thanks,
Alfred

Re: Can't wake up display when using Synergy

Have you tried this same scenario with the standard VESA driver?

I'm a synergy user at work with XP and OSX 10.5, so I understand the usefulness of the product.

No, I have not tried the standard driver, nor do I want to. I'd like to keep using the nvidia driver. I haven't seen anything in either nvidia-settings or nvidia-xconfig that allows me to disable any power saving features. Where can this be configured?
