Vista 64 ultimate BSOD after SP2 upgrade

I get the dreaded BSOD several times a week since I updated through microsoft to SP2. The upgrade went flawlessly - no errors or locklups. Now every once in awhile I get the BSOD. Before the upgrade my system was rock solid stable - no issues at all.

Any ideas guys?? I'm baffled.

Nope. Nothing there. I thought at first it might be a hardware issue, but everything was fine before the SP2 upgrade. Now the BSOD. It just happened a few minutes ago as I was on this forum.(lee)

Confused??!!

What does the BSOD say?

well did you install anything else besides the sp?
Go through and update your display drivers
run memtest to see if thats the problem.

process of elimination...
if you have another hard drive install a new OS and see if that one bluescreens as well. If it does then its a hardware problem. If not, then its software.
You could also roll back the service pack and see if that eliminates the problem. If it does, then theres a program/driver that isn't happy with SP2.

hope that helps!

I think that was only an issue with RTM (gold shipped code). The integrated SP1 worked with 8GB of ram, I've know cause I've done it without issue many times. So if he's got an original Vista copy that might be the problem.

Im starting to believe that too.

Its something to do with original cd or dvd and ram.

I know even for 8 gigs or ram you need to tighten up the timings and vcore just right or bsod will occur.

Well thats possible as having more memory slots populated is more work for the memory controller. Usually NB voltage has to be bumped if you have all 4 slots populated.

Yea thats pretty much the norm with most nbers.

usually a 5 percent upping of the vcore to about 1.2v on nvidia and 1.3 on intel usually is the fixerupper shuvs.
