I just installed 190.42 drivers and lock is still there.
I found it beacuse of Option "SLI" "AFR" set in my xorg.conf. so removing this option is fix the problem but how do i enable SLI? Also Option "UseEvents" "true" works very bad - i have had my X server perfofmace lost and trouble with input devices. Removing this option fixes the issue. However 180.51 drivers still works fine with all options above. |
Re: NVIDIA 185.18.36 lock on Dell XPS m1730
Nice to see I'm not alone. I've been posting about this issue and submitted reports to the nvidia bug email address for about 3 months (see my post here) :-(
Enabling SLI with any options causes the hang. Your options are: - use older linux drivers. As you noticed, anything in the 180.x or earlier series will work (up to ~169.x series). - do not enable SLI on linux. - run windows. SLI works happily there. - sell M1730 ws |
Re: NVIDIA 185.18.36 lock on Dell XPS m1730
Thanks for your opinion but the options are unacceptable :( I still working with M1730 on Linux and SLI bug is very annoying for me. I hope nVidia will fix it in nearest feature because the support is the more important for users than the new hardware toys.

Re: NVIDIA 185.18.36 lock on Dell XPS m1730
Sorry - I feel your pain.
I tried the 190.42 drivers, but the driver would crash with SLI on and with SLI off (ie single GPU). Do you have the same problem with 190.42 even with SLI off? Regards ws |

190.42 works without SLI just fine for me. I haven't use Compiz but OpenGl software is working good. I attached my xorg.conf. Try it and post the result, please.

190.42 is working for me on single gpu now - with my own xorg.conf, which in reality is pretty much the same as yours.
Don't know what happened before... Anyways, thanks for your help. I hope our SLI problem can be resolved ! ws |

Re: NVIDIA 185.18.36 lock on Dell XPS m1730
I think that must surely be a bug in the documentation. With the unified driver architecture between windows and linux, surely nVidia can't support SLI on Windows and not on Linux!
The m1730 with 8700M GTs was working with SLI from 169.04 linux drivers all the way through to 180.60. The issue is that they are not working from 185 on. ws |

Re: NVIDIA 185.18.36 lock on Dell XPS m1730
I do not believe the README is inaccurate in this regard: SLI on notebooks is not officially supported by the NVIDIA Linux graphics driver; however, it is not explicitly disabled, either.
That said, I was able to track down a Dell M1730 with dual GeForce 8700 GT GPUs today. It reproduces the behavior described in this thread: 180.52 works with SLI enabled, 190.42 yields a system hang. It looks like this problem is fixed in the upcoming 195.xx driver series. |

Awesome! Thanks very much, zander!
I'm looking forward to checking out the new 195.x betas. ws |
