VDPAU size limitation?

First some background:

I am a graduate student at the University Of Maine and some of my research is with high resolution displays. I am currently working with an art class who are producing high resolution (7680x4800) video.

We have a 16 headed computer driving 16 monitors using (4) Quadro NVS 420 cards.

We are running into what seems to be a size limitation of 2048 x 2048 pixels for video on this display. Mplayer originally had a hard coded size, but we replaced this. Now when we try to run with -vo vdpau as our output driver, it fails to initialize vdpau on any video larger then 2048 x 2048.

Is there any way to get around this?

See Appendix H in driver's README.

thats a great suggestion, I hadn't realized that CoreAVC had ported into CUDA space. I'll report how it goes.
