support for other window systems
Can the interface for the nvidia xserver be changed. Is there the ability to use other window systems that mesa supports like miniglx or glfbdev. It seems that at least the ability for third parties developers to support other window systems would allow for better development for graphics systems in linux. Having to use the window systems that only nvidia supports forces Linux users to relay on only one standard. Is there a reason why nvidia drivers only work with xserver.

Re: support for other window systems
I don't think it is just nvidia, most linux graphics development seems targetted specifically at x.

Re: support for other window systems
Does nvidia or ati allow for third party developers to change the source code that would allow their graphics drivers to work with other window systems without open sourcing their graphics drivers. Whey would their be an issue for that part of the driver to be open source like the interface to the kernel. Does using other window systems change the part of the driver that runs the graphics chips.
